"Something so cool happened today. I had just arrived back at the shop and was ringing up a sale. The customer handed me her credit card and as always, I studied the name to recall whether or not she was a regular shopper here (I have a freakish ability to recall first and last names--with exact, idiosyncratic spellings--that I have seen written out only one time, however, I struggle with faces). It was a business credit card and the business name rang extremely familiar to me--familiar because it was the name of a song I have loved for years (and even included in a presentation on teenage female identity formation while in grad school) and just last night cooled down to on the treadmill while listening to my iPod. I looked at her and said, "Fragile Tough Girl. Isn't that a song?" She looked at me and said, "Yes. How do you know that song?" I looked at her name again, put two and two together, and said, "Are you THE Jo Davidson?" She said yes and I hooted and said, "I just have to hug you!" Turns out her parents live in the area and she's in town visiting them." ......read more

"Jo Davidson is a slow burning fire that's catching wind. Her songs are finding fans wherever they are played. Jo's sound is quiet, melodic and intense. Similar to Aimee Mann, her emotions always on her sleeve, her lyrics devastatingly relevant, and her melodies perfect for the feeling she pours into them. That combination produces stellar results."
- Chris Lamb, Teen Hollywood.com

"The honesty of Davidson's songwriting stands alone. Her disgust for ill social behavior and internal spiritual apprehension depict a wishful heart. Jo Davidson has a purity similar to the likes of Heather Nova and Jewel, but an intelligence all her own. A genuine talent..."

"Infectiously melodic and offbeat enough to be truly interesting- her song "Kiss Me There" has been added to the playlists of more than 30 "hot AC" stations around the country. On Akron's WKDD-FM, "Kiss Me There" was the most second requested song last week on the station's nighttime "8 at 8" countdown show."
- Dan Kane, The Repository

"A haunting singer/songwriter. Jo goes beyond vulnerable. You couldn't get much closer to her thoughts if you were her soulmate. The way she unveils a story is pure art. Davidson is special. Approach her with respect."

Jo Davidson's debut album, Kiss Me There, is so jaggedly real that at times I sat staring at the CD player, wondering if I really heard her say what she just said. Sometimes it was because she was being purposefully vulgar (as in "Cherry Road,") poking at me while singing with dead seriousness.
On Cherry Road house 1202 there's an interesting woman who paints male nudes,
She spreads their legs ‘til it's almost crude and she paints a full frontal view.
The men in the neighborhood think she's warped
She does what men have done for centuries in the name of art....
But she's even more daring when she's tearing the door to her past off its hinges and focusing her relentless stare at things hiding in the dark. "Mental Pollution" is a brilliantly written cry of defiance in the face of manipulative mass media. "I Don't Dance" recounts her experience with a former boss who made a serious pass at her and fired her for not complying. ("I don't dance for just anyone," she sings assertively. She may have made a naive decision by going to dinner with him, but she never budged from her truth.)

However, the bravest example is the painfully real "Rose Colored Glasses," as Davidson sings out a painful past.
With rules by which even God wouldn't abide, you set down the iron fist.
I fell in lust, and the punishment stung like fresh blood on a suicidal wrist....
Despite the pain that emerges in many of her songs, this is not a CD of misery. Even the unhappy stories are told from a place of triumph. She is stronger than her past. She finds refuge in those she loves, as she explains in the romantic, enveloping chords of the title track. "I feel safe in our home," she says simply. She also shows her playful side in the lust-flavored "Shampoo Boy."

Thirteen tracks on this CD, and I sat mesmerized through them all. I think I've been sitting here for a couple of hours because I hit the "repeat" button more than once on some of them. I also think I fell in love with her voice. Song after song, whether she's languidly rapping verses in the pounding, grinding "Windows" or musing the world's contradictions in "All The World's Religions," her voice is rough-edged yet beautiful. Alanis Morrissette without the shrieking.
Chances are, you've already heard Jo Davidson's music. "I Don't Dance" is featured in the trailer for the Jennifer Anniston movie The Good Girl. Her music has also been featured in a VH1 movie (Shannon Daugherty sings "Mental Pollution" at the end of Friends ‘til the End) as well as Felicity, Blossom, and other shows. She's one of NYC's UrbanMuses and a regular performer at clubs all over the city.
And if you haven't heard her music but want to, I'm going to do what I've only done twice before in my indie writing career. The first person to e-mail me with their snail mail address at jennifer@indie-music.com will get a free copy of Kiss Me There. I'll order it from CDBaby and have it shipped to you. E-mail me. Now.

The Simply Said Sessions by Jo Davidson is a collection of beautiful piano rock, in the vein of Sarah McLachlan, Vienna Teng and other adult contemporary album rock artists.

The songwriting is superb and is reminiscent of the way Shawn Colvin writes. The melodies are haunting and lovely and will stick with you long after the CD ends (that is if you can resist the urge to just hit repeat all day).

Davidson has a voice that is simply gorgeous and though unique can remind the listener of other artists at times. For example, on "Writing on the Wall", I was reminded of Lisa Loeb. "Somewhere in Between" recalls Merrie Amsterburg. But the voice is unique and doesn't consistently sound like anyone other than Jo Davidson. I also like the lo-fi sound of her vocals on "Misery". It makes the song seem almost urgent.

The production, overall, is also first rate. They really took time to get every little nuance correct and the result is great.

These songs are familiar and comfortable upon first listen but by the time you've listened three of four times, these songs are your best friends. That to me, is the mark of a fantastic songwriter. I will be listening to this CD for years to come, I am sure. I also look forward to more of Jo Davidson in the future.

New York singer/songwriter Jo Davidson bridges personal trials and tribulations and a charming confidence on her debut Kiss Me There. Recorded in her own studio and released via Davidson's independent publishing company, Fragile Tough Girl Records, Davidson defines a feminine stance without fierce criticism against society and stereotypes. She stays close to her own experiences, placating delicate piano work with heartfelt songs about adult maturation and transition. She makes sense of her own confusion quite nicely and select tracks such as "Fragile Tough Girl" and "Shampoo Boy" are playfully intricate with Davidson's airy, yet accented voice. "I Don't Dance" prances with a sleazy slide, yet Davidson's vulnerability is sucked into the wrong situation. Simplistic acoustics and fragmented drum beats cast the album's overall composition, but the honesty of Davidson's songwriting stands alone. Her disgust for ill social behavior - "Mental Pollution" - and internal spiritual apprehension - "All the World's Religions" depict a wishful heart. Jo Davidson has a purity similar to the likes of Heather Nova and Jewel, but an intelligence all her own. Kiss Me There showcases a genuine talent and an artist who's growing into her own - as a female and as a singer.

What some of the fans have to say:
I found out about Jo Davidson, as I was scanning the web to find information on the film "Friends Til The End" with Shannen Doherty, and especially the songs that were heard during the film. I came across the song "Mental Pollution" and I immediately downloaded it. This song is probably one of the highlights of this album, and by far my personal favourite as it represents my feelings about the whole crisis the world is going through in our times. I bought the cd KISS ME THERE from her official site and all I can say is that it's A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I'd totally recommend this album to EVERYONE WHO'S SICK WITH ALL THE TRASH MUSIC PROVIDED AND PROMOTED BY THE MEDIA. I consider this cd as a true oasis to all the rubbish which is being heard in our days. Jo's got a beautiful voice, she's the BEST piano player AND composer and I love the fact that she's here all by herself and her talents. I can't wait to the next album "The Simply Said Sessions"!
-Stassa

I first heard Jo Davidson in a bar in New York about 2 years ago. Drunk as I was at the time her music touched me enough to make me buy her CD (then called 'Fragile Tough Girl'). The songs are reminiscent of Aimee Mann mixed with a little Heather Nova. Simple, fragile, moving. It's worth buying the album for 'Mental Pollution' alone. That song is amazing ..
-Suzy

Every once in a while you trip across an artist or a song that simply stands above the expected. That is found in Jo Davidson's title cut of her debut album "Kiss Me There". If you hear in her music echoes of Alanis Morrisette, Goo Goo Dolls, and even Fleetwood Mac, it is because this artist has surrounded herself with those producers who contribute to these popular groups. The one downside of this album is that most people will not have heard of either Jo Davidson or her exquisite title track. The responsibility for that dismal failure clearly falls on EAR (Edel America Records), now Edel Entertainment, who didn't have either the foresight or resources to promote this catchy, lyrical, and endearing single to its rightful place on Billboard's Top 40. This is an artist to watch, because when she finds the combination of tune and timing, you will be able to say; "I knew her when..."
-G.F

Kiss Me There' is a rare expression of originality and spirituality combined with a strong sense of commercial appeal. The musical hooks draw you in quickly while the lyrics keep you thinking. 'Rose Colored Glasses' is truly a remarkable song. I look forward to hearing more gems like these on TV, in the movies and on the radio.
-Jordan

KISS ME THERE is a great CD with an exciting mix of styles and sounds. Moving and honest lyrics. I can't help but be reminded of the introspective lyrics of Bruce Springsteen's "Tunnel of Love". In my book, that is a serious compliment. Thanks for the music Jo!
- Bob

Jo Davidson's "Fragile Tough Girl" is now up there on my favorites along with Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette & Fiona Apple! Her raw lyrics and catching melodies will leave you humming her stuff all day and never getting enough! (By the way, I RARELY have anything nice to say about ANY fellow songwriters)
- Terri

It has been a long time since I found a CD that really moved me the way this one has. "(Kiss Me There)" Every single track is filled with so much spirit, so much honesty and so much passion. While some of the songs are more light-hearted (Shampoo Boy), in others you can actually feel the pain the combination of lyrics and music give life to (Rose Colored Glasses). This CD has some of the most emotional songs I have had the pleasure of listening to in a long time. It's not background music. It makes you want to sit there and listen to it, take it in, and feel it.
- Jamie

I could sing Shampoo Boy until I was blue in the face. I LOVE this CD. I bought it for Mental Pollution but oh my god I love EVERY song.
- Sarah

I haven't written many reviews but I wanted to say how beautiful your Cd "Tell The Story" is. Thank you, Jo Davidson! Yes, it feels like a trip to Paris, although I have never been there, but it's what I'd like Paris to be like.
- Shari

The music in this CD TELL THE STORY is as evocative and compelling as any piano work I have ever heard. I think the analogy between what Jo Davidson has done here and the work of Erik Satie is very apt... her piano music entices the listener to follow Jo on her journey through Paris, to almost see and smell and touch what was there for her. If we are very, very lucky, Jo Davidson's enormous talent will be recognized and put to good use... were I filming a romance or drama, she would be a natural choice for music that would enthrall the viewer. Great things lie in store for this fine artist.
-Vance

Jo captures feelings and emotions and bundles them in catchy tunes. Her songs make you realize that you're not the only person in the world who has been through tough times. Keep up the great work!
- Kelly

How many hackneyed renditions of the Christmas standards can you own?? If you feel you've tried the best, try again and buy this- (I got three but will be re-ordering more)--it's the songs you know so well, but presented in an intimate, haunting and can't-get-enough manner. A true gift of the season!
- Liv

I have just about worn out my CD "Kiss Me There," and was thrilled to see that Jo Davidson released another one...This CD is great and is in continual rotation in my car right now, I LOVE it!
- Valerie

Merry Christmas & Happy New York is so beautiful. I ordered 5, but I'm thinking that is not enough!
- DeAnna

I bought this CD last year for Christmas, and I liked it so much I bought three more this year for gifts. It's traditional, but with a little twist. It is awesome Christmas music.
- Kaye

Peace and tranquility from a Steinway with warm holiday feeling from a talented lady. So absolutely beautiful, mesmerizing, enchanting and spirited that I bought a few for familiy and friends. You will never tire of this one. An absolutely beautiful, mesmerizing, enchanting piano solo, rich in nostalgia.
- Andy

To say this is beautiful music does not do it justice. The performer's artistry and the quality of the sound from the 1929 Steinway make this one of the finest collections of Christmas music EVER! Buy several and give them as presents. Your friends will sincerely thank you.
- Florence

After listening to many Christmas albums, we have over 100, the simplicity of a wonderfully toned solo piano just gave us a warm, winsome feeling. My personal favorite up to now had been Charlie Byrd's solo christmas album. I guess nothing compares with the naked instrument in the hands of a real genius. Thanks for this Christmas treasure.---A tonal masterpiece-hauntingly beautiful-our new favorite
- Vince

I'm a real traditionalist when it comes to christmas. My cd collection runs from the vienna boys choir to vince guiraldi. Jo davidson's cd was a real find! I keep going back to it again and again. It was the first thing i reached for on xmas morning. I just cant stop playing this cd
- Mike

This CD is my new favorite, not only to listen to during the holidays but anytime that I want to hear beautiful piano music. Everyone that I gave this CD to at Christmas feels the same way! This is a keeper!
-Teresa

This is one of my favorite CD's and I had the pleasure of seeing Jo Davidson in person in Pittsburgh, PA last year which was amazing! Her other CD's are fabulous too! An AWESOME artist, talented beyond words!
- Lena

Jo Davidson is an AMAZING artist! So inspirational! She sings what's in our hearts and souls... You can just feel her music deep within yourself... SIMPLY WONDERFUL!!!
- Mandy

LET ME "SIMPLY SAY THIS"... I LOVED The Simply Said Sessions!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERFECT!! WONDERFUL CD!! BEAUTIFUL VOICE, MUSIC ... EVERYONE WILL LOVE IT!!
- Camila

Wow!!! So good, I'm speechless! I loved the last one, and I love this one!
- Eve-Anne

Warm, brooding and intimate collection of soul-baring songs. Stripped back from fancy studio production makes this organic and confessional marriage of songs feel like you're "Being Jo Davidson".
- Larry

Your work has given me much inspiration, joy, peace and appreciation for the little things in life we take for granted.
- Rick

Simply Said Sessions has it all. Songs, mournful and lyrical in quality; pieces that fill in pensive and reflective moments in time. Background for a cozy, rainy afternoon, or insightful conversations. Every song reaches deep, to a place where everyone can relate; reaches in and calls us to examine our most vulvnerable selfs -- when we're in love, when we're wanting. Jo Davidson has done it again. I think this is her best CD to date! Excellent!!! No skip-over songs. Mournful, inspiring, lyrical.
- Rossana

Jo Davidson's follow-up CD to Kiss Me There offers more evidence that she's one of the finest Independent artists around. The Simply Said Sessions feature a collection of reflective songs with brooding lyrics, stunningly beautiful melodies, bittersweet vocals, and that extra, undefinable ingredient that Jo brings to a song. The songs bounce back and forth between the pain that life harbors, and the hope that one needs to survive. For those of us who loved Kiss Me There, Jo serves notice once again that she's not into repeating herself. This CD is made up of bare arrangements that make every word stand out. Her voice becomes another instrument, at times very sad, occasionally philosophical, but always interesting and compelling. This is a magnificent work with it's final piece, the beautiful instrumental Carousel being Grammy Award worthy. Let's hope that this gets the attention it deserves and is a huge triumph for Ms. Davidson.
- Tim
